Free newsroom security webinar Aug. 10 will include active shooter training

A free webinar, Security Training for Newspapers: Active Shooter Preparation & Response, will be presented Aug. 10 by Online Media Campus.
Registration is open to Texas newspapers at no cost. Deadline to register is Aug. 7 for the webinar, which will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10. 
Kevin W. Techau, former United States Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa now with the Smith, Mills & Schrock law firm, will conduct the webinar. 
Active shootings are a real and deadly threat for all business and communities, as evidenced with the recent shooting at the Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Maryland. According to Online Media Campus, the Aug. 10 webinar will share lessons learned from active shooter situations. 
A review of current response concepts, emergency plans and techniques for prevention will be provided. The latest techniques used by law enforcement, businesses and community agencies in preparing for active shooter scenarios will be explained. 
Those interested in participating but are unable to attend the live webinar are encouraged to register and receive free access to the recorded archive of the webinar to view at another time.
