Texas Better Newspaper Contest opens for entries Feb. 12

The best examples of journalism and community service are celebrated each year through the Texas Press Association Better Newspaper Contest.
The 2018 Texas Better Newspaper Contest is open to all newspapers that were members of TPA during the entirety of 2017.
This year, the contest entry period opens Feb. 12. TPA member newspapers are invited to upload entries through the Texas BNC online contest platform. Deadline for entries is 5 p.m. March 22.
Winners will be announced at the annual contest awards luncheon on June 23 at the conclusion of the TPA Newspaper Leadership Retreat at La Torretta Lake Resort & Spa in Montgomery.
Members are encouraged to start selecting their best work from 2017. Updated contest rules will be available at the Midwinter Convention and Trade Show later this month. Rules will be also be available online soon.
Annual contests are made possible with the help of other press associations across the country, which participate in a contest swap to judge one another’s competitions. TPA’s partner this year is the Nebraska Press Association. NPA’s Better Newspaper Contest is also a spring competition and Texas judges are needed to evaluate the entries.
Judging contests is one of the best ways to see what makes a newspaper stand out and pick up ideas for your own publication. Publishers, editors, designers, writers and advertising representatives could all benefit from the opportunity to see the best work NPA members have to offer.
