Hamlin Herald @ Hamlin

The exact founding date of the Hamlin Herald is uncertain but the volume number indicates 1905 while some records say both the newspaper and the town were launched in 1906. Sometime after the Herald came into being, a second newspaper was started, the Four-County News. It did not survive very long and was followed by the Hamlin News. The Hamlin Herald was the only one to survive. Bowen Pope and his brother-in-law, N.L. Ball, purchased the Herald May 1, 1914, and Pope continued as publisher until Nov. 1, 1946. Pope served in the Texas Legislature. In 1960 Roy and Bob Craig and R.E. Kennedy bought it and Bob and his wife, Barbara, took over the publishing duties in April 1960 and continued for more than two decades. Today the Hamlin Herald is owned by Becky Alambar, who also owns the Stamford American. Founded: 1905
