ObituariesEd M. Bailey Graveside services for Ed M. Bailey, 81, were held May 12, 2008. Bailey had been in the printing industry since age 13. He has worked with The Dallas Morning News, Amarillo Globe News, The New York Times, Chicago Tribune and other major US newspapers. He was the publisher/printer for the McLean newspaper from 1965 to 1977. He owned Bailey Printing in Friona for 15 years. His Linotype machine is displayed in the McLean museum. Linda Farris Linda Farris, 67, died March 23, 2008. She was an Orange Leader reporter and journalist for approximately 30 years before retiring in 1998. She lived in Austin after serving as editor of The Northeast Georgian and spent much of her time writing short stories and books. Oscar Kost Oscar Kost, 98, died May 3, 2008, in San Angelo Community Hospital. He was historian and advisor for The Ozona Stockman for many years until his death and authored many columns over the years. JoAnn Minshew JoAnn Minshew 83, died April 15, 2008, in The Hospice of East Texas. She wrote her column for The Big Sandy & Hawkins Journal for many years and her last column of Hawkins News was in the March 26 issue. Spencer Pearson Spencer Bones Pearson, 82, died May 3, 2008. He was a news reporter, editor and columnist with the Corpus Christi Caller-Times for 37 years starting in 1953 after a news editor stint in Weslaco. He retired in 1990. Minnie Jo Pope Minnie Jo “Mint” Pope, 80, died April 29, 2008, in Wichita Falls. She was the Joy community correspondent for the Clay County Leader and won numerous awards for her writing. Georgia Roberson Georgia Elizabeth Roberson, 85, died May 1, 2008. She worked as editor of the Edgewood Enterprise where she also wrote a column called Liz’s Chit Chat, and retired after 37 years. Gary Willmon Gary Willmon, 51, May 21, 2008, at a Lufkin hospital after a long battle with Crohn’s disease. He was city editor for the Lufkin Daily News and his career spanned three decades. He began working for the News in 1975 as a freelancer and joined the sports staff full-time in 1976, and was editor until 1989. He moved to the Free Press in Diboll before returning to the Lufkin as city editor in 2005.
