National award-winning small daily seeks a reporter who will help it become the best small community newspaper in Texas. As our newest reporter, you will handle general assignments and features, as well as cover municipal government. Palestine is a diverse community. We want someone who understands the importance of covering the entire community. We are an aggressive media outlet that takes its watchdog role seriously. Reporters take their own photos and videos. So skills in those areas are desired. We value utility players who can learn, if needed, to assume any role in the newsroom, including layout and design. Digital skills, and a desire to use them, are a must. Reporting experience is a big plus, but we have turned people without experience into good reporters. For the right person, we will do it again. You must work hard and want to get better to succeed in this newsroom. The pace is fast, but the work environment is congenial, open, and flexible. If interested, please send a short cover letter, resume, and five or six work samples to Editor Jeff Gerritt at jgerritt@palestineherald.com Please put "Job applicant" in the subject line. If you have questions, feel free to call Editor Jeff Gerritt at 903.729.0281, ext. 256; or cell: 313.802.6621.
