The Williamson County Sun, a 140-year-old, award-winning, twice-weekly family newspaper in Georgetown, Texas, 30 miles north of Austin, seeks an experienced editor capable of putting out a great newspaper for our readers and the community. Georgetown is one of the fastest-growing cities in the U.S. It is home to Southwestern University and a repurposed courthouse square that has become a dining and entertainment center. The area is a mix of young and old with a 12,000-student public school system and a burgeoning retirement population.
A successful candidate will be eager to learn about Georgetown and Williamson County, to study the area and venture out into the community. The work requires a person with a solid background in reporting and copy editing; possesses a ruthless eye for spelling, punctuation and the kind of detail that makes or breaks a story; and is a first-rate teacher, leader and organizer motivating a small, young news staff. A successful candidate will be comfortable working under tight deadlines and responding to breaking news. Sun editorial employees live within its circulation area. We prefer applicants who live in Texas.
