Division 2 Large Dailies

1. The Beaumont Enterprise - This newspaper stands out among its competitors. Well-written stories, engaging photos and eye-catching design forces readers to pick it up.

2. The Galveston County Daily News - Attractive front page. It offers a lot of information to the reader. Easy on the eye. Good use of graphics throughout.

3. Kerrville Daily Times - Nice layouts. Great use of photos throughout.

4. The Courier, Conroe - Nice graphics good use of photos. Great variety with the design.

Division 3 Small Dailies

1. The Terrell Tribune - Neighbors page was fascinating. Very creative with an obvious amount of work applied. Solid designs throughout. Photos could be stronger.

2. Waxahachie Daily Light - Good lifestyle page. Editorial page shows good reader interaction. Solid page 1 and sports.

3. Stephenville Empire-Tribune - Good layouts throughout!

4. Plainview Daily Herald - Good job throughout paper. Sports page has several "at a glance" items.

Division 4 Large Semiweeklies

1. Wise County Messenger - Love the front page, very clean and readable. And you don't try to cram too much in. Very professional.

2. The Bastrop Advertiser - Front page may be a little too busy, but good layout and easily read. Sports page is really nice, very clean.

3. El Campo Leader-News - Love the big photos. It makes it not too busy, especially on the sports page. Front page might be better if the lead story had a bigger point size.

4. Beeville Bee-Picayune - Might separate stories more, maybe with a line or color box on front page? Excellent lifestyle and sports page.

Division 5 Small Semiweeklies

1. The Canyon News - Very attractive layout. Almost too busy, but you pull it off. Editorial page was solid. Harvest home - again slightly busy, but still readable. Sports - more air in head than I like, but not distractingly so.

2. Andrews County News - Entry proves color is not essential to a good-looking, readable paper. Points off for weird hatching in left runner on page 1. Page heads on inside pages are too small, they get lost and don't distinguish a section.

3. Copperas Cove Leader Press - Too many body type faces and some unreadable at that. Two main stories on page 1 were well displayed. Am not fond of tombstoning heads, as on bottom of page 1, although I know it is more common now. Color presswork could be improved. Great pic on sports page.

4. Lampasas Dispatch Record - Biggest design flaw is that name of paper is not easy to discern among all the clutter. Too many spot colors vying for attention at top. Could use a little more white space in stories, less in flag. Don't like ads all the way to flag on lifestyles page.

Division 6 Large Weeklies

1. Hondo Anvil Herald - Nice front-page layout. Color is very good. Overall paper is good. A couple pictures not too good but may have been quality of picture.

2. Fredericksburg Standard Radio Post - The overall paper is great! Seems like such a fun town and a great place to live. Very informative.

3. Port Aransas South Jetty - Great front page. Our youth should be shown on the front more often. Great index.

4. Duncanville Today - Front page great with nice clear pictures. Picture page nice and clear. Makes you want to be there.

Division 7 Medium Large Weeklies

1. West Austin News - Front page is unique, love it. Great ads! Good pictures on lifestyles.

2. Cedar Hill Today - Great front page. Great photo page. Love the designs.

3. Colorado County Citizen - Wonderful pictures, great ads. No lines separating articles.

4. The Community News, Aledo - Really nice ads that catch your attention. Great paper.

Division 8 Medium Weeklies

1. Rockwall County News - Nice clean design. Contrasting headline type grabs attention. Good use of artwork. Photos could be better but overall an exceptional paper.

2. The Canadian Record - Nice blend of art and photos on cover. Dynamic use of photos to complement headline rather than conflict with them. Makes full use of photos without scrimping space.

3. Iowa Park Leader - Great photos that grab you and tell a story. Nice layout and use of graphics. Dynamic cropping of photos.

4. Pilot Point Post-Signal - Nice photos, good artwork. Headlines complement photos.

Division 9 Small Medium Weeklies

1. Hill Country Community Journal, Kerrville - Best overall. Color, photos & design originals.

2. The Citizen, Clear Lake - Good community page. Great photos. Front page was good picture of the day's news.

3. Crowley Star - Good overall. Move some color inside and you've got a winner.

4. Malakoff News - Good overall design & interesting pages. Sometimes could be too busy.

1. Alvord Gazette - I really like the layout and page design. Excellent readability.

2. The Eagle Press, Fritch - I liked the design & colors of the front page. Good layout, easy to read.

3. Sachse News - Good graphics, good color, liked the layout, good read.

4. East Bernard Express - Loved the graphics and front-page design. Not enough color though.
