Victor B. Fain, former editor and publisher of the Nacogdoches Daily Sentinel and 84th president, was born May 14, 1915, on the outskirts of Nacogdoches. He died March 31, 2000, in Bossier City, La. He was 84.

Fain’s association with The Daily Sentinel spanned more than six decades, beginning while he was a journalism student at Stephen F. Austin. After graduating from SFA in 1936 he went to work the same day as a reporter. He served as editor-publisher emeritus since his retirement in 1989. His last column appeared on March 19, 2000.

Fain became editor and publisher of The Sentinel after returning from World War II as a lieutenant commander with an air transport squadron and held the position for more than 40 years, until the local shareholders sold to Cox Newspapers in 1989.

Fain was president of North and East Texas Press Association in 1954-55.
