1952-53 William Rawland Cleburne Times Review

William Munn Rawland, 75th president, owned and published the Cleburne Times-Review from the 1940s through the 1970s.

He was born in Waco on Dec. 25, 1911, and attended Baylor University. He died May 19, 1999, at 87.

Rawland was a Cleburne city alderman from 1958-64, serving as mayor pro-tem part of his tenure.

He started his newspaper career in Ranger as a bookkeeper for the Waco Newspapers Inc. He transferred to the Times-Review, which was part of the same chain, as a cashier/bookkeeper in 1933.

In 1936 he was named business manager until July 1940 when he bought the paper with his father-in-law, Walter Murray.

In July 1947 Rawland purchased Murray’s interest and became sole owner, publisher and general manager. He continued until 1976 when he sold to Donrey Media Group.

Rawland remained as assistant to the president of Donrey, Don W. Reynolds, and publisher emeritus.

He was a committee chairman for Texas Daily Newspaper Association and Southern Newspaper Publishers Association.
