George Peeler, publisher of the Taylor Daily Press and 67th president, spent most of his life in South Central Texas. He was born in Austin in 1887. As a boy, he lived in Mexico City.

In 1914 he received a degree from the University of Texas and went to work as a reporter for the San Antonio Express. About the same time, he married Eileen S. Sheehan.

In 1921 the Peelers moved to Taylor where he went to work for the Taylor Daily Press, the newspaper he purchased four years later.

He was a past director of South Texas Press Association and Texas Gulf Coast Press Association and a director of Texas Daily Press League. He died on Nov. 21, 1952.
